Not just one of the best and most photogenic beaches around but a
National Nature Reserve
and SSSI
(see "Anglesey Geopark").
It's an extensive area comprising not just about 3 miles of beach from Llanddwyn
(pic left) to Abermenai Point (pic right) but the famous area of sand dunes, and the forestry
that was originally planted to prevent the encroachment of the sand.
Maintained paths traverse the area - see Forestry Commission map.
Take bikes, walking shoes, picnic hamper, nature guides, as well as your usual beach stuff... .
If it's a bit windy here, try adjacent Malltraeth.
Take the A55 W, over the Telford Bridge and immediately exit (junction 8a) and turn left onto A5.
After ½ mile (note Marquess of Anglesey's column on right) turn L on A4080 signposted Newborough.
In Newborough, for Llanddwyn Beach take a left turn (signed Llys Rhos) which leads to the afforested part of the reserve and a large car park.
