The Blue Flag Award
Llanfairfechan successfully achieved the Blue Flag first in 2009 lost the award in 2011, regained 2012, lost for 2013. Water cleanliness results suffered here too during the extremely wet summer.

Just the other side of the Pen Y Clip headland is Llanfairfechan and
given the broad similarities of character and facilities of the beach here to Penmaenmawr beach,
what might prompt you to
trek here instead? Well I can suggest that this is more suited to older children.
There's more space, including a footy pitch (adjacent to the boating pool). And heading west
there are the vast inter-tidal sands of Traeth Lafan.
This nature reserve and SSSI is home to the largest population of great crested grebes
in the UK during the winter months. There are hides and observation points but the main attraction is
walking the coastal path and enjoying the ambiance and views towards Anglesey, Puffin Island and the Straits.
So bring your walking shoes because this is a good area to explore.
From TyF, take the A55 west. Turn off at the Llanfairfechan roundabout exit 15 and, following the signs
to the beach, turn right at the traffic lights (or there is a short cut immediately
first right to the promenade, but don't try to take anything bigger than a
normal car through the "rabbit hole" tunnel under the railway).
